Salón de las Artes (The Gallery)

 

 

The Salón de las Artes, located on the second floor of the Embassy of Uruguay in Washington D.C., extends to approximately 270 square meters and has been especially fitted for displaying multi media art exhibitions as well as film projections, seminars, conferences, concerts, theater, and other cultural events.

 

Located within walking distance of the White House, the Department of State, the Organization of American States, the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, as well as many offices of the Federal Government, the Salón de las Artes draws visitors from the diverse national and international Washington community.

 

 

Exhibitions and Activities

 

Since opening its doors to the public in February 2002, the Embassy's cultural section has programmed the following exhibitions:

 

 

2002

  • February 2002: Collective Exhibit of selected works of the Foundation's permanent collection. This show featured over 60 artworks in standard format of 73 cm x 73 cm.

  • March 2002: "Plural". Group show of artists: Elisa Armendáriz, Martín Mendizabal, Ana Méndez & Juan Pedro Paz.

  • April 2002: "La Vida Va" by Bruno Widmann.

  • May 2002: "Figuraciones" by Edgardo Flores, Pedro Peralta & Diego Masi.

  • June 2002: "Confluencia" a solo show of Diego Donner .

  • July 2002: "8 Figurative Artists from Uruguay": an exhibition of the works of the teachers of Taller Arte Club in Montevideo. Manuel Cabezas, Aldo Curto, Philip Davies, Adriana García, Mario Giacoya, Oscar Larroca & Dante Picarelli.

  • August 2002: "Contemporary Arts and Crafts from Uruguay" featuring works of over 60 Uruguayan artisans.

  • September 2002: "Abstract Art From Uruguay" and exhibition featuring works from Osmán Astesiano, Jorge Blanco, Eduardo Espino & Sergio Viera.

  • October 2002: "Transmigrations" sculpture by Cecilia Miguez, featuring almost 30 sculptures by this renowned Uruguayan artist who lives and works in California.

  • November 2002: "Emotions": Luis Arias, Eduardo Marcos & Fernando Oliveri. Exhibitions of their latest paintings.

  • December 2002: "3x3" Featuring works by Rita Fischer, Martin Verges & Gustavo Vazquez.

A number of these  exhibitions have traveled to different cities throughout the United States: Delaware, Chicago, New York and Puerto Rico.

  • February 2003: "Estructuras" Gustavo Serra, Daniel Batalla & Roberto Piriz.

  • March 2003: "Escardo, Legrand, Gil": Daniel Escardo, Marcelo Legrand & Javier Gil.

  • April 2003: "El ojo del Plata" Alvaro Pemper & Virginia Patrone.

  • May 2003: "4" Marcelo Mendizabal, Rodrigo Flo, Analía Sandleris & Fermín Hontou.

  • June 2003: "Sculptures and Reliefs" Ricardo Pascale.

  • July 2003: "For Export" Laura Moras, Gonzalo. Rodríguez, Esteban Smerdiner & Jacky Urioste.

  • August 2003: " ...Y al Sur: San José" Mercedes Fuentes, Fernando Magnou & Hugo Nantes.

  • September 2003: "Southern Perspectives" Joaquín Aroztegui, Juan Carlos Conti, María José Fort & Bernardo Korseniak.

  • September 2003: "Art from Uruguay" Diego Donner, Diego Masi, Angeles Martínez, Fernando Oliveri, Pedro Peralta & Gustavo Vázquez (Miami Dade Cultural Center, Miami, Florida).

  • October 2003: "Enchantments, Vibrations and Myths" Yvonne D´Acosta, Nora Kimelman & Angeles Martínez.

  • November 2003: "HechoAcA" contemporary Arts and Crafts from Uruguay featuring works of over 50 Uruguayan artisans.

  • December 2003: "Three from the South" Marcelo Larrosa, Alejandro Turell & Santiago Zabala.
